Early last Sunday morning I went to Harlan. Since the wind was calm, I decided to troll shallow running crankbaits over the trees on the west end of the lake. After about an hour and a half of messing in that area without fish, I went east of Methodist and trolled with #4 and #5 jointed shad raps like I did last week. The first two passes in that area I had 4 nice white bass and several small ones. Then the action just shut off. I ran over to the south side and trolled along the tree edges from Coyote Canyon to Sindt Point. I didn't even mark fish until I got close to Sindt and then all I caught was small white bass.
The wind came up about noon to around 20-25 mph out of the northeast so I ran over to cook creek and found a little clear spot and anchored and jigged for about two hours. I thought with the wind coming in to the area that maybe some eyes would get active. I was wrong on that also. All I caught was drum and catfish. I tried two other spots between there and Methodist with the same luck. By now the flies were chewing up my ankles so I called it a day. I talked to a couple of other fisherman at the cleaning station on my way out and they seemed to have about the same luck as me. Things just shut down right before the wind came up. I have to admit I haven't fished much east of the gas lines this year so I can't be much help in that area.
Tuesday night there were a couple of walleye caught on the west end of the lake using jigs and slip bobbers during the Harlan Anglers Walleye Club. I guess we just have to try this every day. I still feel that the walleye fishing will pick up any time. There are a few being caught it is just really hard to find a consistent pattern.
This weekend I am off to Lake McConaughy for the NWA tourney. I will let you know how things are out there next week. So far, the reports that I have heard is that it is very tough fishing for eyes out there also.
Wish me luck! Hope to see you on the water!
